National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) was established in 1921 to recognize outstanding high school students with an emphasis on four main values: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. To join the National Honor Society, high school students in grades 10 through 12 must meet national baseline standards and satisfy any additional expectations set by Star International Academy’s chapter.
The Four Core Pillars is the standard to evaluate candidates using four main values:
- Scholarship: Students need a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.
- Service: Students must do voluntary work for the school or community without compensation.
- Leadership: Students must show problem-solving skills, take initiative, and be dependable leaders in school or community groups.
- Character: Students must exemplify good behavior, reliability, honesty, and cooperation with teachers and peers.
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR MEMBERSHIP, STUDENTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
- Successfully completed their freshman year (enrolled in their current Sophomore, Junior or Senior year)
- A minimum career GPA of 3.5
- A minimum of 20 community service hours completed during their high school career
- At least one letter of recommendation
- A completed application
Star International Academy’s NHS chapter was established to recognize student accomplishments and encourage student growth through active involvement in school activities and community service. Upon selection for membership, candidates attend an induction ceremony in which they pledge to uphold the high standards of NHS.
Following induction, faculty advisors continue to monitor NHS members performance and discipline records throughout the school year to ensure adherence to rigorous NHS standards and chapter bylaws. To maintain an active status within the NHS chapter members must maintain regular attendance at all meetings and participate in all scheduled community service outings.
